Diy Homemade Pvc Water Gun

Water gun fights are a great way to keep cool in the summer heat.

Nothing says summer like a good old fashioned water gun fight. A water gun fight is a great way to keep kids occupied at the family barbecue, or to help them cool off on an extremely hot day. Department store shelves are usually stocked full of a wide variety of different types of water guns. Most of these water guns are very expensive, and some are quite complicated to operate. Save yourself some money and frustration by building your own water gun from PVC pipe.

Instructions

1. Drill a hole in the PVC pipe cap with a 1/16-inch bit.

2. Heat up a heat gun and apply heat to the middle of a ½-inch-diameter PVC pipe that's approximately 6 inches in length. Heat the pipe until it becomes soft and pliable. Use your fingers to press inward on the pipe to form a bump shape. Slide the pipe into the open end of a 2-liter pop bottle. The bump you formed will create a seal with the opening of the bottle to prevent air leakage.

3. Mark the exact spot where the pipe and bottle meet together with a pen or permanent marker. Look through the clear bottle and make a line on the bottle where the end of the pipe is inside the bottle.

4. Slide a 4-inch nipple section into the horizontal input of a PVC tee connector piece to build the water gun nozzle. Connect a second 4-inch nipple piece on the opposite side of the connector. Attach the PVC cap on to the end of the connector piece. Secure all the attached pieces using strips of Teflon tape.

5. Connect a piece of 3-inch pipe to the vertical portion of the tee connector. This will need to be the bottom part of the vertical section. Apply a thin layer of PVC pipe cement to the pipe and connector to secure the pipe in place. Connect the PVC pipe male adapter to the pipe piece. Connect a ball valve piece to the newly attached male adapter piece.

6. Attach a garden hose adapter to the ball valve piece you attached to the gun body assembly in the previous step. This adapter needs to be a female adapter so that you can hook up a water hose to the gun.

7. Apply a small amount of PVC cement to the piece of pipe that is inside the 2-liter bottle. Attach the end of the pipe not in the bottle to the tee connector and body assembly.

8. Attach a garden hose to the hose adapter on your PVC pipe water gun. Open the gun's ball valve to allow the water to enter the empty bottle. Fill the bottle by turning the water on inside the hose and filling up the bottle. Once the bottle is full, shut the water off and close your ball valve.
