Ideas For Garden Art From Junk

Make a water fountain with old wooden barrels.

Turn junk into treasure and adorn your yard with classic antiques, cans and other transformed garbage. Use old wheelbarrows, pottery and other items that would normally go in the dumpster as outdoor pots for your plants. Place tomato plants in an old-fashioned hanging bird cage on the side of your porch and look for other creative ways to reuse the junk in your home as refurbished garden decor.

Metal Milk Cans

Find these milk cans at antique shops

Old-fashioned milk cans from the 1920s and beyond serve as decorative garden decor for any type of landscape. Place one or two milk cans near trees, shrubs or flowers. The milk cans add a rustic appeal and you can even use some types of cans to grow flowers in or place potted flowers on top of the milk can. The cans come in many colors, but the most commonly seen cans are basic gray tin milk cans.

Glass Bottles

Use glass bottles as decorative garden art, instead of throwing these in the trash. Place the bottles next to your tin milk can or other accessories or fill the bottles with dirt and place different colored bottles along the fence near your garden. The bottles are too small to plant anything in them, but they can serve as decoration in your yard.

Miniature Tin Garbage Cans

Small tin cans are generally gray, but you may be able to find other colors.

Use miniature tin garbage cans as planters for roses, daisies, and other flowering plants. These tins can accommodate clusters of small flowers as well as really large plants. You can find these tins at antique shops or look for people selling them online. Most modern garbage cans are made out of plastic, so many disposal companies no longer carry tin garbage cans.

Chipped Ceramic Bowls

Use your old chipped ceramic bowls as planters or decorative art in your garden. You can even add new life to these bowls by gluing pebbles, pieces of broken tile or beads on the outside of the bowls. Plant small flowers, moss or other dwarf plants in these bowls, unless you have over-sized ceramic bowls. You can plant even bigger flowers like daisies, tulips and orchids in bigger ceramic bowls.
