Moving a big gun safe

Moving a BIG gun safe

Any one know move a 1210 lb gun safe? It's large, heavy and expensive and I have to move it to make room for the baby and it will not budge. Any help or ideas are welcome. Welcome to the forums! Just had to move one last week. It's called invite 5 of your big bubba friends over for hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. and, by the way..... We did have a heavy duty dolly so we leaned it over with the stupid guys under it and pulled it onto the dolly. It was a bear, but doable. If it has to go down any stairs be prepared to replace nosings. Mine was 600 #--only broke 2 or 3.................. Have fun Originally Posted by huntndude Any one know move a 1210 lb gun safe? Unload safe, remove front door (door is a large part of the wieght of the safe). Tip it up on one edge and insert golf balls. Tip up other edge and insert more golf balls. Here're some more suggestions, from the archives of ar15.com: *********** I had my safe (also a 1150 lb Heritage) moved three times. First, it was delivered by two guys that move gun safes all the time. They used a combination of steel plates with 3/8steel rods used as rollers - moved from the back to the front as they rolled it along. The were slow careful did a great job. ************ My safe weighs 1400 lbs empty and the easiest way I found to move it was to use metal pipes and roll the safe over them. I used the black gas line that you can get at a home center. Cut it in 3 ft lengths and roll the vault on top, slide the safe forward and move some of the pipe in front of the safe as you're pushing. You will only need 4 or 5 pieces that way. ************ First thing is to unload the safe. Second, rent a heavy duty hand truck to move the thing. Third, buy some wood shims at a lumber store. Use the shims to raise the front of the safe, put the hand truck shoe under, strap it on and move it. Rolling on pipes may not work with a carpet or rug. ************** Hope this helps! I recently purchased another one and the local shop used a piece of equipment like the normal dolly, except it moved up a step by a switch (i.e. the safe was moved to the back door as you would a refrigerator and at the door, the hydralic lift moved the safe up and forward a few inches and then the lift moved up to the same level. I told him i had not seen the devise before and he said he let customers use when they move. Just a thought and i was impressed with the ease. Good luck, al Also for whats its worth, on some models the fire proofing on the inside is just layers of sheet rock that can be removed. Hope this helps.
