12 volt heat tape
i have an application where i could use pipe heat tape if it is available to run of 12 volt dc does anyone know if such an item even excists???? I looked for some quite a while ago and couldn't find a thing. Supposedly you can buy 120V heat tape and chop it up into 10ths and the thermostat will still work. But it really sounds like a pain, given that you can't solder anything and the wires are brittle. They do make 12v pipe heaters for RV use, which you install on specific locations on the pipes. Not quite as useful as continuous flexible tape and probably not quite what you're looking for, for your app. What kind of application is this? Maybe you could come up with a simpler solution. For example 12V incandescent rope lighting would keep something relatively warm if in direct contact. i deliver mobile homes my truck has sliding mirror bars 2 inch steel tube slides into 2.25 steel tubes they constantly freeze in the winter and are immobile http://www.heatline.com/kompensator.htm
