Dynaco Qd1 Specs

The Dynaco QD-1 is an entry level matrix surround sound decoder. With the Dynaco QD-1, users are able to connect several speakers and use them in sync for functions requiring more than a couple of speakers, such as playing music at a party, giving presentations with a microphone or studio recording purposes.

Front Panel

The controls on the front panel of the Dynaco QD-1 are well-designed and simple to configure. The three knobs on the front panel allow users to configure the output to the speaker setup, such as stereo, theater, or surround channels, as well as the gain and control for the speakers.

Rear Panel

Three front outputs and two rear outputs allow users to connect a five-channel speaker system the QD-1. There are outputs for two amplifiers on the rear panel as well.

Performance

Compared to higher quality decoders, such as Strong or AMB decoders, the sound quality is below par and does not produce consistent audio levels between the rear left and right channels. According to Chris Kantack of Surround Sound Information Source, "the Dynaco QD-1 Series II L decoder provides 1970's style 4 channel matrix decoding with the additional possibil[i]ty of attaching a front center speaker output if desired."
