Use A Firewire Cable To Move Data

Use a FireWire Cable to Move Data

FireWire cables can be very convenient for transferring data from many devices. Some devices don't have a FireWire port for the use of a FireWire cable, but most high end computers, camcorders and hard drives do. FireWire allows you to transfer data much faster than standard USB cables, which makes FireWire cables optimal for large file transfers.

Instructions

1. Plug each end of the FireWire cable into each device. The large end connects to the computer, and the small end will connect to the camcorder or hard drive.

2. Go to your computer desktop. Open "My Computer" on PCs or a "Finder" window on a Mac. Open the device from or to which you want to move data.

3. Click and drag the files you want transfer to your device or computer by clicking and dragging them to the device or to your computer desktop.

4. Allow the data to transfer. The hour glass will return to the mouse pointer when the transfer is complete.

5. Right click the device you have connected to your computer via FireWire cable. Click "Eject." Unplug the FireWire cable from both devices.
