Parts Of A 35mm Slr Camera

Parts of a 35mm SLR Camera

Single lens reflex or SLR refers to the camera's design. In an SLR, the image seen through the viewfinder is reflected from a mirror within the camera's body. A 35mm SLR camera uses 35-millimeter film, which would distinguish itself from a digital SLR camera.

Body

The body of the camera is the camera's box, to which all the other parts attach. Inside the box portion of the camera is the compartment to hold the film. The mirror, which reflects the image into the viewfinder, is located inside the camera, as is the prism and focusing screen. The viewfinder is located on the back of the body and is a small glass window or lens the photographer looks through to frame the picture.

Lens

The 35mm SLR camera has interchangeable lenses or a general lens permanently affixed to the camera's front. With interchangeable lenses, the photographer has the option of switching lenses on the camera, enabling him to use special lenses to bring the view in closer, such as with telephoto or wide-angle lenses or manipulate the image in other ways. The aperture ring and focusing ring are located on this part of the camera.

Controls

The other parts are attached to the body of the camera, and each serves a specific purpose. The rewind knob is used to rewind the film, and the film advance is used to advance the film. A knob to adjust the shutter, called the shutter speed dial, is located on the top of the camera, as is the frame counter. The shutter release button is what is pressed when taking the picture, and the self-timer is used if the photographer wishes to use a tripod and have the camera automatically snap the picture. When using a tripod, the screw on the top of the tripod is screwed into a threaded hole on the bottom of the camera body.
