Hardwire Sirius Radio In A Car

1/8-inch male stereo plug

You can connect a Sirius radio's headphone or line output directly to the auxiliary input on your car receiver, through a cassette adapter or through an FM-direct adapter. Direct connections work better because they eliminate static from FM stations competing with the Sirius radio's FM transmitter, but the connection you use will depend on your receiver's configuration.

Instructions

Connecting to a receiver with auxiliary input

1. If your receiver has a 1/8-inch stereo auxiliary input jack, use a patch cable with a stereo 1/8-inch miniplug on each end. Plug one end into the auxiliary input jack and the other end into the Sirius radio's headphone or line-output jack. If you have an auxiliary input jack, you will generally find it on the receiver's front panel, on the dash, in the glove box or somewhere between the seats.

2. Power up the Sirius radio and the receiver, and select the receiver's auxiliary-input setting. Set the volume controls on both units.

3. RCA-to-miniplug cable

If your receiver has RCA-style input jacks at the rear, use an RCA-to-miniplug cable. Insert the miniplug into the headphone or line-output jack of the Sirius radio, as in Step 1, and connect the RCA-style jacks at the rear of the receiver.

4. Turn both units on, select the receiver's auxiliary-input setting, and set the volume controls on both units.

Connecting to a receiver without auxiliary input

5. If your receiver lacks any jacks, you can connect with a cassette adapter or an FM-direct adapter. To connect through your cassette player, purchase an adapter that has a miniplug on one end and a cassette-shaped adapter on the other. Attach the plug to the Sirius radio's headphone or line-output jack and insert the adapter into to the receiver's cassette player.

6. If you wish to use an FM-direct connection, unplug the receiver's antenna lead and insert an FM-direct adapter plug into it.

7. Insert the adapter's miniplug into the Sirius radio's "FM Out" jack, and tune both radios to the same frequency.
