Adjust The Shutter Speed On A Nikon D40x

Adjusting the shutter speed is simple on a D40x.

The easy controls and versatile capabilities of the Nikon D40x make this a sought-after camera body. It is perfect for a beginning or amateur photographer and sports a mix of manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic photography modes. In some of these modes, it is necessary to change the shutter speed. Nikon's well-designed camera body makes this process exceptionally simple for even the most amateur of photographers.

Instructions

1. Turn on your Nikon D40x by turning the dial located on the upper-right corner of the camera body to the "On" position. Make sure that there is a memory card in the memory slot and that the battery indicator is full.

2. Select a mode that allows you to change the shutter speed. The two modes that allow you to change this setting are the "S" shutter priority mode and the "M" manual mode. Select one of these two modes.

3. Meter your image if you are using the fully manual mode. Point the camera at the subject and press the shutter button halfway. Look through the viewfinder to read your light meter.

4. Turn the dial located on the upper-right side of the camera body to adjust the shutter speed, taking care to match the speed to the meter reading if necessary.
