Set An Sb600 For Remote Flash

Based on the example of the previous flash model, the SB-800, the SB-600 includes a new feature called i-TTL for Intelligent Through-the-Lens Metering. This feature not only allows the flash to work with the camera's onboard Creative Lighting System (CLS) to calculate the appropriate amount of flash power for various situtations, but also allows it to be used wirelessly with newer Nikons such as the D3X, D80, D200, D70, D70s, F6, D2X, D2H, and D2Hs.

Instructions

1. Set up your flash on a stand in the position you want to use it in.

2. Turn on the flash.

3. Press the Zoom and "i" button together to enter CSM mode, which allows you to adjust your flash's settings.

4. Scroll through the menu using the plus or minus buttons until you see a Z-shaped arrow with squiggles.

5. Press Mode on the Z-shaped menu to turn on wireless communication between your flash and your camera.

6. Press Zoom and "-" again to exit the CSM menu.

7. Confirm that it says Channel 3 and A on the back of your camera, which is the default communication channel. If it doesn't say this, press Mode and then "-" to scroll through until you get to these channels.

8. See your camera's specific manual to find instructions for setting the camera to Commander Mode, which allows it to trigger the flash.

9. Shoot as your normally would, allowing the TTL metering to choose the flash's power level.
