Disable Nextel Direct Connect

Direct Connect is a two-way radio feature included in cellular phones on the Nextel network. Using Direct Connect, you can contact someone instantly as though you were using a walkie-talkie. While this feature is useful for some, it can become bothersome if you're constantly being paged via Direct Connect. Fortunately, there are a few ways you can disable this feature. To learn how, you can follow a few basic steps.

Instructions

1. Turn off your speakerphone setting. You can do this by holding down on the "Speakerphone" button for a few seconds. A beep will let you know that speakerphone has been turned off. Should another Direct Connect user try to contact you, you'll have to accept the call first.

2. Activate "Vibrate" mode. This will not only silence the walkie-talkie portion of your Direct Connect feature, it will also silence all other call alerts. If you really don't want to be bothered, the Vibrate setting is a good mode to be in.

3. Contact Nextel and ask them to completely remove the Direct Connect service from your plan. This option is only for those who want to do away with Direct Connect completely. Once the feature is taken off your plan, you won't be able to use it again without contacting Nextel and asking the company to re-add it.
