Use A Mic With A Mac Mini

The Mac Mini is a small desktop computer made by Apple. Although small, it contains many features. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor and built-in wireless networking. The Mac Mini does not contain a built-in microphone, but it can support an external microphone. You cannot connect a line-in microphone directly to a Mac Mini, but there are other options.

Instructions

1. Choose your microphone. If you already own a line-in mic that you want to use, all you need is an adapter. If not, choose a USB mic, which allows clear sound input.

2. Purchase either your USB mic or adapter. The adapter to purchase for use with a line-in mic and Mac Mini is the Griffin iMic.

3. Locate the USB port you want to use on the back of the Mac. The Mac Mini has five USB ports. Consider the length of the cord when choosing your port. If the cord is quite short, choose the USB port closest to where you sit.

4. If you purchased a USB mic, plug it directly into the USB port. If you have a line-in mic and purchased the Griffin iMic, plug the iMic USB audio interface directly into the USB port on the Mac and plug your line-in mic into the iMic's line-in port.

5. You are now ready to use a mic with the Mac Mini. Some programs that come on the Mac Mini can be used with the mic. Record yourself singing using Garage Band or chat using iChat, which also comes on the Mac Mini. Skype, a free application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet, can be downloaded online and used with a mic.
