Connect An Integrated Amp

Integrated amplifiers combine the source switching and volume control functions of a control amp/preamp and the output of a power amplifier in one chassis. Integrated amps can be designed to very exacting specs, and offer a way to get excellent sound without breaking the bank by having to buy two separate components. Hooking up an integrated amplifier is relatively easy to do.

Instructions

1. Examine the back of your source components, such as CD/DVD player, tape deck, and phono preamp or turntable, and the back of your integrated amp to determine what type of connections to use. XLR balanced cables are considered better by experts, and are used in most professional audio equipment, but are not as common in home audio.

2. Connect the left/right cables from the DVD or CD player to the input on the back of the amp labeled CD or DVD. If you are connecting both a DVD and a CD, run the CD to the CD input and the DVD to either the DVD input, if it has one, or an input labeled "Aux 1."

3. Connect a tape deck, if you have one, with the left/right cables from the tape deck to the input labeled "Tape" or "Aux 2."

4. Connect the phono preamp outputs to the input labeled "Phono" on your integrated amp.

5. Connect the red and and black speaker wires from the left speaker to the left speaker terminals and from the right speaker to the right speaker terminals.

6. Plug in the power cord.
