Rca Wireless Phone Jack Troubleshooting

The RCA wireless phone jack is a phone jack extender released in 1994. It allows you to add another phone jack in your home or office without the need of extending the wiring through the walls. Installing the wireless system only takes a few minutes, after which you can begin using the second phone.

Connection Problems

Most connection problems with the RCA wireless phone jack occur when the system is not properly installed. Common connection problems include no dial tone, the inability to dial out and the phone not ringing. To fix the connection problem, start by checking the setup. The wireless jack base should be connected to a working phone jack and plugged into a power outlet. Connect the wireless base to your phone and check for a dial tone. Next, plug the wireless receiver unit into a power outlet where you would like a second phone. Plug the wireless receiver to the second phone. Pick up the phone and listen for a dial tone.

If you still have no dial tone, check that both power outlets are working by plugging a different electrical device into them. You may need to check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker if the second device does not work in the outlet.

Finally, move the base unit and the receiver closer to each other. The unit has a limited range and is subject to interference from other wireless and electrical devices. The closer distance should cut out most of the interference.

No Dial Tone With Rapid Beeping

The RCA wireless phone jack may pick up interference from another nearby unit, such as at a neighbor's house. When this occurs, you will hear rapid beeping instead of a dial tone when you pick up the phone. RCA included a security code feature that locks other signals out of the unit. To set the security code, unplug the base and receiver from the power outlet and remove all of the telephone cords. Using the tip of a paper clip, press the recessed button in the small hole under the green light on the side of the base and hold it for at least five seconds. Press the same button on the side of the receiver and hold it for five seconds. Once the buttons have been pressed on both parts of the unit, reconnect the base and then the receiver.

Static

Several types of electronic devices may cause interference with the wireless unit, especially if the devices are close to the unit. If you hear a lot of static in the phone, move any electrical devices away from the wireless units or move the wireless units to a different location. You may have more success if you move the receiver closer to the base unit.
