Install An Automobile Cd Player

Installing a CD player into a car is a simple process. And even if you don't understand how a car is wired, these steps will help you get the job done.

Instructions

Remove the Factory CD Player

1. Obtain the manual to your vehicle. Because there are many different models of cars, there are many types of factory CD players. Your manual can be a great resource to guide you through the process of removing your current player.

2. Remove the dash. The majority of players are nested behind the dash. Often you do not have to remove the entire dash, just a dash panel that is covering the player. You need access to the mounting brackets of the player. Most dash panels are held in place by clips. Pulling out on a dash panel should remove it from the dash.

3. Unscrew the player. Again, this process will vary by car model. Most factory players are mounted to brackets held in place by a couple of screws. Unscrew the screws and set them aside. The player should now slide freely.

4. Disconnect the player from the wiring harness. The CD player connects to your car's audio system through a wiring harness. Before the player can be removed, you must unplug the wiring harness. Push down on one side of the wiring harness and pull out the CD player.

5. Wire the new CD player to the new wiring harness. You should have purchased a wiring harness with your new player. There will be multi-colored wires coming out of the back of the player. These wires need to be joined with the wires from your new wiring harness. This is much easier than it sounds. All of the wires are color coded. Connect the red wire from your new wiring harness to the red wire running out the back of your new player. Do the same for each of the other wires.

Installing The New CD Player

6. Install the new dash kit. Your new CD player may be slimmer and more compact than the factory player. The dash kit is made to solve this problem. Most dash kits simply snap into place with a firm push. They are held in place with clips.

7. Connect the new wiring harness to the car. You will need to do this the same way you removed the factory player. Connect the wiring harness to the plug that connects to your car's audio system. Both plugs should snap together.

8. Mount the new CD player. Mounting the new CD player involves pushing the new CD player into place through the dash kit. There will be a perfect sized opening to slide in the new player, this is the opening that you need to use. You should also connect the new CD player to any mounting brackets that came with the dash kit. There will be instructions for doing this that come with the dash kit.

9. Reinstall the dash panel. The dash panel will go back in the same way it came out. Dash panels on most cars are held in with clips. Give the dash panel a firm push to snap it back in.
