Troubleshoot A Compaq Microprojector

Hewlett Packard manufactures a line of microprojectors under the Compaq brand name. The Compaq microprojectors have a worldwide limited warranty through HP. If the microprojector fails to perform as intended, troubleshoot it before contacting HP for warranty service. If the projector is no longer covered under warranty, resolve common issues through troubleshooting to avoid the cost of unnecessary service.

Instructions

No Image on Projection Screen

1. Inspect the pins on the end of the power cable. If pins are damaged, replace the power cord. Plug the cable firmly into the projector and into a working electrical outlet.

2. Press the "Power/Standby" button to turn the projector on. Remove the lens cap.

3. Disable the screen saver on the desktop or notebook computer if the projector is connected to a computer.

Image Cut Off or Scrolling

4. Press the "Resync" button on the projector to resync the connection from the projector to the computer.

5. Turn off the projector and the computer. Turn on the projector, and then turn on the desktop or notebook computer.

6. Right click on the Windows desktop and click "Personalize," "Display Settings," or click "Screen Resolution." Drag the resolution slider to 1024-by-768 and click "Ok."

Out of Focus

7. Turn the focus ring on the projection lens clockwise or counter-clockwise until the image is focused.

8. Move the projector so that it's a distance of at least 6.6 feet and no more than 32.8 feet from the projector screen.

9. Spray camera lens cleaner on a clean cloth. Wipe the projector lens in a circular motion in a single direction. If the cloth smears the lens, the cloth is dirty. Use a clean cloth to clean the lens.

Lamp Turns Off

10. Examine the "Standby" light. If the light is flashing green, this means the projector overheated and is shutting down. Wait 10 minutes to press the "Power/Standby" button when the green light stops flashing.

11. Wait a few minutes and turn the lamp back on. A power surge may have caused the lamp to shut off.

12. Turn off the projector if "Lamp May Fail Soon. Replacement Suggested" appears on the projection screen. Allow the projector to cool for 30 minutes. Unplug the projector and turn it upside down. Remove the screw on the lamp cover with a flat head screwdriver or coin. Lift the cover and remove it. Remove the screws securing the lamp module. Pull up the lever and remove the module. Insert a new lamp module. Screw the lamp module in place and push the lever down. Replace the lamp cover and tighten the screw to secure it.
