Batteries are an important source of power for your gadgets.


Modern gadgets can be powered by both titanium batteries and NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) batteries. These batteries, while often interchangeable, have a number of advantages and disadvantages. Knowing the differences between these batteries can mean getting more out of the gadgets you use.


About NiMH Batteries


NiMH batteries are rechargeable. NiMH batteries have for their negative electrodes a hydrogen-absorbing alloy, and the batteries' positive electrodes are made of nickel oxyhydroxide (NiOOH). NiMH batteries are less susceptible to functionality issues than their popular counterpart, the NiCad (nickel cadmium) batteries. NiMH batteries are most often used in a wide range of consumer portable electronics, as well as in electric vehicles and industrial applications.


About Titanium Batteries


Titanium batteries are an upgrade to standard alkaline batteries and can be either disposable or rechargeable. In titanium batteries, small quantities of a compound containing titanium have been fused into the batteries' cores in order to improve performance, mainly by decreasing the batteries' internal electrical resistance. With a lower resistance, less electrical energy is discharged as heat, and thus more is reserved for whatever device the battery is charging. Tests have consistently shown that titanium-enhanced batteries perform better than non-titanium batteries.


Which Battery is Best


Depending on the device being used and the situation it is used in, you may prefer different batteries. You should consult your electronic device's instruction manual to determine what battery type is best to use. But whether you are using a standard alkaline battery or a NiMH battery, titanium-enhanced batteries usually work best. Titanium NiMH batteries and titanium alkaline batteries are available at most major electronics retailers.
