Use The Magellan Explorist 100

The Magellan eXplorist 100 is a hand-held GPS unit that has three main navigation screens: a plotter, a compass and a position screen. While in position mode, the plotter screen shows your present location and the direction you are heading. It also shows the position of your destination, the point you started, the straight-line path to your destination and your track for the trip.

Instructions

Turning The Unit On and Off

1. Press the power button to turn the unit on. It is located on the right edge, near the top of the unit.

2. Press "Enter" within 30 seconds of turning the unit on to keep it on. This is a guard against accidentally turning the eXplorist on and unknowingly draining the batteries. The "Enter" button is located on the bottom front of the device, with the other control buttons. It features a bent, left-pointing arrow.

3. Press the power button again to turn the eXplorist 100 off. There is a five second delay before the unit shuts down. You can change your mind and leave the unit on by pressing "ESC," located directly below the "Enter" button. The "ESC" button features an X in a circle. To turn off the unit immediately, without waiting five seconds, press the power button a second time.

Using The Plotter Screen

4. Press the "Zoom In" and "Zoom Out" buttons to change the scale on the plotter screen. These buttons are located to the left and right of the "Enter" button and have plus and minus signs on them.

5. Press the "Mark" button to save your current location. The "Mark" button is located on the bottom left, next to the ESC key.

6. Move the cursor with the "Arrow Joystick" button, which also functions as the "Enter" key. The arrow will change to a crosshair symbol and information about that point will be displayed on the bottom half of the screen. Press "Enter" to save that position as a point of interest (POI).

7. Turn off the information boxes at the bottom of the screen by pressing the "Menu" button, located to the right of the "Enter" key. Then select "Hide Map Info." Turn on the information boxes by pressing the "Menu" button and then selecting "Map Plotter Info."
