Unlock A Cingular 8525

The Cingular 8525 "Hermes" is a personal digital assistant phone available through through AT&T, formerly Cingular Wireless. This phone is available exclusively through AT&T and popular as an alternative to the iPhone. To use the 8525 Hermes on a different network, it is necessary to unlock your phone's SIM card through the use of the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) and unlock code. The IMEI is basically your phone's serial number, used to uniquely identify your phone to the cellular network switches.

Instructions

1. Connect your 8525 Hermes to your personal computer (PC) through the USB. The smaller (mini-b) end of the USB cord connects to your phone while the larger (a) end connects to any open USB port on the PC.

2. Navigate to the XDA Developer Wiki (see Resources). This site has the latest free downloads created by the Hermes community.

3. Download the latest Cingular ROM by selecting the relevant mirror.

4. Double left-click the executable you just downloaded to begin installation.

5. Accept the license agreement, left-click Next and finally left-click "Finish" to install.

6. Simultaneously hold "OK" and "POWER" to enter the bootloader mode. This is where you will begin unlocking your phone.

7. Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program that you installed previously to begin the ROM update on your phone. This step will take several minutes to complete. When you see "Upgrade Error 114" it will be time to continue to Step 8. Don't panic, this is completely normal.

8. Reset your phone using the stylus. The reset icon is located under the start menu.

9. Run the Run HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe icon that is now located on your Hermes desktop. If successful you will see a pop-up window declaring "Success!"
