Format an 8GB USB Flash Drive


An 8GB USB flash drive is a portable storage device that supports a large memory capacity capable of storing files such as videos, music and documents. It allows you to backup important files in case your computer crashes. Before using your flash drive to upload files, you need to format it. The formatting process makes it compatible with your operating system, and then you can begin uploading files to your drive in no time.


Instructions


1. Insert your flash drive into an open USB port on your computer. Depending on your computer, USB ports are located either on the back, front or both.


2. Right-click "My Computer" on the desktop and click "Manage" to launch the device manager. Click "Disk Drives" to expand it and right-click your USB flash drive. Click "Properties." Click "Policies" tab and check the "Optimize for performance" radio button. Click "OK" to save the changes.


3. Click the Windows "Start" menu and click "My Computer." You should see your flash drive listed as a removal disk and assigned a letter such as J, K, L, G or D.


4. Right-click your flash drive and click "Format" to launch the formatting tool.


5. Select "NTFS" under "File System" and select the formatting option you want to use. Click "Start" to format your 8GB USB flash drive.
