Problems with your Sony DCR-DVD203 Handycam can prevent you from capturing life's special moments with family and friends. A number of issues may come up with the device while in use. You can troubleshoot most of these problems at home without contacting a Sony dealer.
Instructions
Power Issues
1. Disconnect the camcorder from its power source if the device will not operate when you have the power turned on by taking out the battery pack or removing the AC adapter. Reconnect the device to its power source after a minute. If the camcorder still won't work, press the "Reset" button, located on the side of the device under the LCD screen, with a sharp object.
2. Leave the camcorder in a cool place if it doesn't operate with the power turned on and it feels warm.
3. Press the "Easy" button, on the left side of your camera near the view finder, to turn the "Easy Handycam" operation off if buttons are not working.
4. Verify that a charged battery pack is attached to the camcorder if it won't turn on.
5. Slide the "Power" switch, located on the right side of the device, to "Off." Verify the battery pack is attached to the camcorder and the device is securely plugged into a wall outlet if the charge light does not light up while you are charging the battery. If the connections are secure, the battery charge may be complete.
6. Fully charge the battery pack if the remaining battery time indicator does not indicate the correct time. If it still doesn't show the correct time, open or close the LCD screen to reset the counter. If it is still incorrect, replace the battery.
7. Verify the battery pack is securely attached to the camcorder if the charge light flashes. If you still have problems, contact your Sony dealer because your battery pack may be damaged.
LCD Screen Issues
8. Touch the screen or insert a disc into your camcorder to cancel Demo mode if an unknown picture appears on the screen.
9. Turn the Easy Handycam feature off if you cannot turn the LCD backlight off.
10. Press the "Disp/Batt Info" button, located on the side under the LCD screen of your camcorder, or touch the LCD screen if buttons do not appear on the touch panel.
11. Calibrate the screen if the buttons on the touch panel don't work. Connect your camcorder to a wall outlet, slide the "Power" switch down, remove any discs and disconnect any cables attached to your camcorder other than the AC adapter. Touch the "P-Menu" button on the LCD screen followed by "Setup," "Standard Set," "Calibration" and "OK." Press the "X" displayed on the screen with a thin object, and then touch "Cancel" when the position of the "X" changes.
12. Extend the viewfinder or adjust the lens if the picture is not clear.
Recording Issues
13. Slide the "Power" switch down to light up the "Movie" or "Still" icon if the camcorder does not record when you press "Rec Start/Stop."
14. Insert a new disc if the device will not record due to lack of disc space.
15. Turn the camcorder off and leave it in a cool place if it won't record.
16. Turn your camcorder off and leave it for about an hour if it still won't record; moisture condensation may have occurred with the disc.
