There are a wide range of options available when looking for karaoke software. While the simpler programs can perform the basic tasks of playing back the music tracks along with a lyric display, more complex programs allow for song editing, new mix creation, and burning karaoke discs to be played on an external machine.
Karafun
Karafun is a free karaoke program that can read all karaoke file types (KAR, CDG, Mp3+G, MIDI) and display them on your computer screen or a secondary monitor. This program can also change the key of the song, alter the speed and reduce vocals of Mp3s to make possible karaoke tracks out of other songs. This program is available for PCs only.
iStar
iStar is a free karaoke program for Mac computers that offers the basics of karaoke programs. It reads all karaoke file types and can import songs onto the computer from a karaoke disc inserted into the CD drive. It displays the lyrics on a window in program; the lyric font and size can be altered. It also allows for the creation of playlists.
Power CDG+Burner
Power CDG+Burner is a tool to create and copy karaoke discs. You can also create custom mixes from songs in other karaoke discs or that you downloaded. It is available only for PC computers, and can be downloaded for $39.
Siglos Karaoke Professional
Siglos Power Karaoke professional is oriented toward the serious karaoke singer or professional karaoke host. It has a singer database where singers' regular songs are stored as well as the keys they prefer. A list of upcoming singers can be stored as well as previews of their songs and the length of time until it is a singer's time to perform. For performers, a song's tempo and key can be changed during the song. This is a PC-only application and can be downloaded for $99.
CompuHost
CompuHost is also a professional-level karaoke program that can store and manage thousands of karaoke tracks. The program combines much of the features in Karaoke Professional (key changes, singer lists, etc) with burning capabilities. It also has effects to add to the microphone such as reverb and echoes to give the vocal sound a more polished feel. This program is also only available for the PC, and can be purchased for $179.
