Make A Camera Lens Filter

Make a Camera Lens Filter

Whether you're an amateur or a professional photographer looking to get a bit creative with your pictures, try creating your own inexpensive lens filters. A lens filter works to change the color or reduce the light your photos are exposed to. Creating your own lens filter is not difficult or expensive, and you may even find some of these tools lying around the house. There are surprisingly many options to create your own lighting effects. Don't be afraid to try something new.

Instructions

1. Buy a roll of slide film at a photography store and have it developed unexposed. This will give you a thin, clear film that's perfect for making your own filters. If you can't find slide film, use cellophane.

2. Cut the slide film just slightly larger than your lens.

3. Purchase a few, inexpensive bottles of methyl blue, yellow or red from a pet supply store.

4. Put a little water in the pie pan, and add a few drops of the methyl blue or any other color that you like. Mix the solution so it is even in color.

5. Dip the cut slide film into the solution and let it sit for about five minutes. Use tweezers to pull it out and flip it upside down to cover both sides. Let the film dry.

6. After the film is dry, use masking tape or a rubber band to attach the filter to your lens.
