Make An Android Phone A Wireless Hotspot

In Android 2.2, a software revision known as "Froyo," Google added a feature to Android phones that allows them to become Wi-Fi hotspots. This means that other devices, such as computers, laptops and tablets, can connect to Android phones and make use of their Internet data connections. This feature is useful if you can't find a Wi-Fi hotspot, or if your Internet connection goes down. Enabling this feature on an Android phone running Froyo 2.2 takes only a few steps.

Instructions

1. Tap on the Application's button to show your list of applications and select "Settings."

2. Select "Wireless & network settings," then tap "Tethering & portable hotspot."

3. Choose "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings" and type in a name for your hotspot under "Network SSID." You can also select the type of security you want on your hotspot. "Open" means that anyone can connect, while "WEP" will require you to set a password.

4. Hit the back button on your phone and tap the checkbox next to "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot." This will turn on your hotspot. You should be able to find and connect to your new Wi-Fi hotspot using any Wi-Fi-capable device.
