Magellan Roadmate 2000 Instructions

The Magellan RoadMate 2000 is a handy, easy-to-use mobile GPS device that can help the user find routes and driving instructions, locations and points of interest, among other features. Light and portable, it can make long and short trips alike less stressful once you set it up and learn the basic operating instructions.

Starting Out

The Magellan RoadMate 2000 comes preloaded with a vast database of travel-related information, including highways and streets, plus addresses and locations of potential stopping points. Charge the unit with the car/cigarette lighter plug the first time you use it; the battery may not come fully charged. Read the owner's manual to learn about the functions, features and options of your GPS, and visit Magellan's website to register your device so they can inform you of any updates. Hold the power button in to turn it on; use the touch screen to familiarize yourself with the menus, screens, icons and basic operations. Press "Home" to enter and save your home address.

Setting Routes

To set a specific address for your destination point, press "Street Address" on the main menu screen. Search by city, zip code or a previously stored city. Enter the street, and then the address once the city is selected. Then set the starting point for the route either from your current position or a separate address. To set a point of interest as the destination, press "POI" on the menu and choose between a handful of categories or spell out the name; possibilities will be shown as letters are added. For businesses with multiple locations, select one closest to your current position or city center, or at a specific address, and then again choose the starting point of the route. If on the freeway, you can route to the destination from the nearest exit.

Addresses/Trip Planner

Use the "Address Book" feature to store and access previously used and favorite destinations as a shortcut for setting a route. Manage your address book by adding, changing or deleting saved locations. Press "Trip Planner" on the main menu and follow the directions to plan a route between two points with any number of destination points in between. To activate a trip, press "Guide Me", select that particular trip, and press the first stop to begin. Press "Edit" to change or delete any locations saved in that trip.

Options

Press "Options" in the main menu to adjust the look and manner of the display ("up" can be set to north or to your current heading, for example), to search for possible detours and whether to calculate re-routing when off the original route. "System Settings" lets you adjust the brightness, volume, language and other aspects of the display. Customer and technical support information for Magellan can be found in the owner's manual and at Magellan's website.
