The Gary Fong Lightsphere is designed to be used with adjustable flash heads.
While it may look a plastic bowl sitting on your camera flash, the Gary Fong Lightsphere is a good tool for diffusing your flash when used indoors. It can also be used outdoors when you are using your flash to fill in shadows or to add some light to the subject you are photographing. The Gary Fong Lightsphere is available through a number of photo retailers, and you can buy it online.
Instructions
1. Turn your camera and flash off and attach your flash to your camera. Tilt the flash head on your external flash straight up so it is pointing toward the ceiling.
2. Slide the Gary Fong Lightsphere on top of the flash head. The Gary Fong Lightsphere is produced in different sizes to fit most flash units.
3. Remove the top insert from the Lightsphere. This will allow additional light to travel upward providing better illumination for indoor photography.
4. Turn your camera and flash on and set the camera and flash to the settings you normally shoot with for flash photography.
5. Hold the camera to your eye, compose and take the picture when you are happy with the composition.
6. Replace the top insert and tilt the flash head back to its normal position when shooting outdoors. While you can use the Gary Fong Lightsphere in the vertical position when you are shooting outdoors, adjusting the flash back to its normal position and using the Lightsphere creates a diffused burst of light on your subjects. When used in this position, the Lightsphere is a good addition for outdoor portrait or wedding photography.
