High Tech Computer, Inc., or HTC, released the Cingular 8125 smart phone or "Pocket PC" in November of 2005. As a Pocket PC, the Cingular 8125 is a handheld computer in addition to being a cellular phone and functions using a mobile Microsoft Windows operating system. According to Pocket PC Central, while the performance of the Cingular 8125 is "somewhat disappointing," the Pocket PC can be enjoyable if the user understands and tolerates its limitations.
Voice Communication Quality
Perhaps the worst aspect of the Cingular 8125, as Pocket PC Central argues, is the device's telephony or voice communication. Even if a Cingular 8125 is maintaining a strong wireless signal, the voices that come through the device's receiver can lack crispness. In addition, the people that a Cingular 8125-user speaks to over the phone can find that the user's voice sounds hollow or far-away. Pocket PC Central reports that you can use a high-quality headset with the 8125 to improve the quality of voice communication. A Bluetooth device can also be beneficial.
Design
While the Cingular 8125 can easily fit in most pockets, the Pocket PC does not fit so easily in most hands. This is due to the Cingular 8125's bulky, cumbersome design, which makes the device difficult if not impossible to operate using one hand. And while a well-designed, comfortable stylus could have made up for the Cingular 8125's lack of single-hand compatibility, Pocket PC Central notes that the Pocket PC's stylus is "not the most comfortable." However, the stylus does conveniently slide inside of the Cingular 8125, which is a beneficial storage feature.
Processing Speed
Just like a laptop or desktop computer, the Cingular 8125 relies on a central processing unit, or CPU, for controlling and executing operations. However, in comparison to other Pocket PCs, the processing speed of the Cingular 8125 is limited. The 8125's CPU is only capable of 200 megahertz, or MHz, while other Pocket PCs have CPUs that are capable of 416 mHZ and greater. The slower processing speed of the Cingular 8125 makes carrying out tasks on the device slower. However, there is also an advantage to this slower processing speed: it drains the Pocket PC's battery at a much slower rate. This allows the Cingular 8125 to last for long periods of time, even three to four days, before requiring recharging.
Hardware
Stand-out features of the Cingular 8125 include a standard, QWERTY-style keyboard which helps maximize user-friendliness and an integrated, 1.4 megapixel digital camera. While you can save the pictures you take with the Cingular 8125 using its 64 megabytes, or MB, of flash memory, the Pocket PC also includes a slot for a MiniSD digital storage card.
