Connect Your Pda To A Wireless Modem

Some PDA tools, such as web browsing, require access to a wireless Internet connection. As long as you are in range of a wireless modem, you can connect your PDA and get online. All you will need is a PDA with a wireless connectivity card. If you are trying to connect to a secure network, you will need the SSID as well.

Instructions

1. Select the wireless manager on your PDA device. For instance, many Palm PDAs have a task bar with a Wi-Fi logo. The default setting will have the Wi-Fi turned off. Change the selection to "On."

2. Go to the network list found under the wireless manager menu. On this menu, you will see a list of wireless modems in range of your PDA. If you see a network that does not require an encryption key, you can select it to get instantly connected. It will state "None" next to the "Security" heading.

3. Edit the wireless network connection if you plan to use an encrypted type. If the network's name is hidden, you will have to enter the SSID determined by the network administrator.

4. Enter the WEP key. To access a secure wireless modem, you will have to enter the WEP key. The WEP key is the wireless modem's security code used to connect to the signal. It will likely be a hexadecimal 10- to 26-digit number.

5. Set the connection as your default. If you want to automatically connect to the wireless modem when you are in range, save the profile details to your PDA and set it up as your default. You can typically set up four wireless profiles on your PDA.
