Nextel Voice Mail Instructions

Nextel is a cell phone carrier that offers users the ability to use their mobile phone as both a traditional handset and a walkie-talkie to communicate with others. If you have a Nextel phone and miss a call, that caller is typically transferred to your voicemail. Setting up and checking the voicemail on your Nextel phone is simple to do.

Setting It Up

Set up the voicemail on your Nextel phone for the first time by dialing your mobile phone number from your Nextel phone. Once connected, you will be prompted to create both a voicemail password and an outgoing message for callers to hear when you can't answer their call. As a new Nextel user, your temporary voicemail password will be your phone number minus the area code.

Checking Voicemail

Check your voicemail from any phone by dialing your mobile phone number. When calling from your Nextel phone you will automatically be connected to your voicemail and prompted to enter your password to retrieve messages. When calling from another phone press the "*" key when your voicemail message starts in order to be directed to your voicemail menu.

Deleting and Saving Messages

Delete messages after you listen to them by pressing "4" or save messages to be listened to later on by pressing "7." Saved messages will typically be archived for 30 days before they are removed from your inbox.
