Troubleshoot An A345 Digital Camera

Released by Fuji in February 2005, the FinePix A345 is a compact, point-and-shoot digital camera. It has a 4.1 megapixel sensor and 3X optical zoom. Because of the age of the camera, it is unlikely that original manufacturer's warranties are still valid, but that doesn't mean that repairing the camera is out of the question. Following a few simple troubleshooting steps can extend the life of your camera.

Instructions

1. Check for error messages. More than two dozen error messages are programmed into the FinePix A345, and this is helpful when troubleshooting the camera. The error messages can be grouped into a few categories: lens errors, memory card errors, battery errors, communication errors and printer errors. Of these, lens errors and memory card errors are the most common, and the simplest to solve. Focus errors (indicated by a shaking hand icon or an exclamation point with "AF" or "AE" beside it) can usually be overcome by increasing the ISO sensitivity or by using a tripod or the camera's built-in flash. Memory card errors, including read or write problems, may hint at a faulty memory card.

2. Examine the lens. If you see spots or flecks on your photographs, make sure the lens is clean. Most debris and dust that create spots on your photos are visible to the naked eye. Wipe the lens with a dry, soft cloth to clean.

3. Identify photographic problems. Take a few pictures in different light conditions (dusk, broad daylight) and look closely at the photos. Spotty images may not be the product of an unclean lens. Excessive "noise" on your photo (small, black spots), are a result of the camera's sensor simulating fast film in a high sensitivity mode (ISO 400) in low light. Flash-lit photos with bright white spots come from dust and debris in the air, not necessarily on the lens. The flash illuminates particles you can't see, which can ruin photographs.

4. Change memory cards. Instances where the shutter is pressed down but no image is recorded are usually a sign of a corrupt memory card (or a full one). Try another memory card in your camera and see if you can recreate the error.

5. Change batteries. As simple as it sounds, low battery life in one or both of the AA batteries in the FinePix A345 can bring about many different issues, from the camera not having any power, to the camera cutting out during regular use. In extremely cold conditions, the batteries may not last as long as you would normally expect. Warming the battery in your pocket for a few minutes will extend its short-term power.
