Root An Evo 4g 2 2

The HTC EVO is an Android-based smart phone for the Sprint network.

Rooting an Android-based phone gives the user permission to access "Super User Permissions" for the device, which allows the user to do basic things such as clear cache from core applications to more advanced tasks such as wirelessly tethering the device (turning the phone into a Wi-Fi router so other wireless devices can use the phone to get on the Internet). Rooting is something that should be done by those who are familiar with the Linux system that Android is based off of and who understand the consequences of improper rooting.

Instructions

1. Uninstall HTC Sync from your computer if it is installed. You can reinstall it later if you want.

2. Turn off your phone.

3. Hold the power and volume-down buttons until the boot menu loads. Press the volume-down button four times until the HBOOT USB menu is highlighted and then press the power button.

4. Plug the EVO into your computer using the USB-to-MicroUSB cord included with the device.

5. Right-click on "Computer" in your Start menu and then click "Properties" and "Device Manager." Under "Other Devices," right-click "Android 1.0 device" and click "Update Driver Software." Click "Browse my computer" for driver software and locate the Android USB driver folder on your computer. After installation, click "Close."

6. Unplug your phone from your computer and turn off USB debugging by tapping "Menu," "Settings," "Applications," "Development" and then "USB debugging."

7. Plug your phone into your computer and set it to charge only.

8. Run Unrevoked3 from your computer. This will take about five minutes to completely flash your phone and root it using this software.
