FireWire ports are commonly used in cameras and other digital devices.
Most Acer laptops do not provide IEEE 1394 (FireWire) ports as part of their standard configuration. Of the Acer models being produced as of November, 2010 the Aspire 8943 is the only model of Acer notebook that provides this feature. There are four configurations of the 8943 available that provide support for FireWire connections. Each of these configurations offers slightly different hardware configurations to fulfill a variety of user requirements.
Model AS8943G-6190
The 6190 version of the Aspire 8943G provides users with a single IEEE 1394 port. It also includes the 64-bit version of Windows Home Premium and uses an Intel Core I7-720QM Mobile Processor. Its processor is rated at 1.6 gigahertz and has a 6 MB data cache. This model has 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500 GB hard drive and an integrated combination Blu-ray player and Multi-format DVD/CD burner. It also includes a 5-in-1 media card reader and uses an 18.4-inch LCD display that has a maximum resolution of 1920 by 1080 supported by an ATI Mobility Radeon 5850 graphics chipset. It is compatible with the 802.11 b,g and n wireless networking standards and this model has an integrated gigabit LAN card. A built-in webcam and Bluetooth v2.1 support are also included.
Model AS8943G-6782
Acer's 6782 version of the 8943G model Aspire also provides one IEEE 1394 port. It also offers the 64-bit version of Windows Home Premium and a 1.6 GHz Core I7-720QM Mobile processor. However, it provides a total of 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. It also provides a multi-format DVD/CD burner and Blu-ray drive in addition to a 500 GB hard drive and 5-in-1 card reader. This model is equipped with an 18.4-inch TFT LCD display that can achieve a maximum resolution of 1920 by 1080 using its ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics card. This version of the 8943G provides Bluetooth v3.0 support, a gigabit LAN interface, a webcam and a Bluetooth headset.
Model AS8943G-9319
Version 9319 of the Aspire 8943G includes a single IEEE 1394 port supported by the Premium 64-bit version of Windows 7. This version provides a more powerful 1.73 GHz version of the Intel I7-740QM mobile processor used in the first two versions. This configuration also uses DDR3 RAM that is provided by a pair of 2 GB 1066 megahertz SDRAM modules. This model comes standard with a multi-format DVD/CD burner and Blu-ray drive, 5-in-1 media card reader and a 500 GB hard drive. Version 9319 utilizes the same 18.4-inch display and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics used in the other versions of this notebook. This notebook does not support Bluetooth but does provide wireless and wired LAN capabilities and an integrated webcam.
Model AS8943G-9429
The 9429 version provides users with a single IEEE 1394 port that is supported by a 1.73 GHz Intel I7-740QM Mobile processor and 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. It also comes with a multi-format burner and Blu-ray drive that compliments its 5-in-1 card reader. It also uses an 18.4-inch LCD display powered by the mobile version of the Radeon HD 5850 graphics card. This notebook does provides support for wireless networking and a gigabit LAN interface but does not include Bluetooth support.
