Set Up A Fotodiox Softbox

Softboxes often are used in professional studio photography.

Fotodiox is a manufacturer and supplier of photographic equipment, including studio lighting accessories. A softbox is a tent-like rectangular attachment that is mounted onto the front of a standing light. Once mounted, the light passes through the softbox and is diffused in different directions. This creates much softer light, which is ideal for portraits and product photography. Once your Fotodiox softbox is installed, you'll be able to eliminate dark shadows and harsh light from your photos.

Instructions

1. Loosen the securing clip at the top of your standing light. Rotate the clip clockwise to unlock the barn doors, which are the metal flaps used to direct the light's output.

2. Lift the barn doors up and away from the front of the light to remove. Allow the metal to cool before removal if the light has been used recently.

3. Insert the speed ring into the metal tabs that surround the front of the light. Slide the securing clip over the speed ring and tighten to lock it in place.

4. Pull the Fotodiox softbox out of its storage container. Open the softbox so that the connecting rods are fully extended. Orient the softbox so that the interior lining faces the speed ring.

5. Push the four connecting rods into the corresponding holes around the speed ring. To securely fit the rods, you might need to bend them slightly when inserting them.

6. Check that the softbox is securely mounted before powering on your light. Ideally, the softbox should resemble a square tent protruding from the speed ring.
