Find Set Top Box Signal Sources

A set top box sits on top of your television set. It tunes the higher cable channels that most televisions can't receive with just a standard antennae. Some of these have built-in DVR's and the ability to use a splitter and connect to the Internet. Follow these steps to find signal sources for a set top box.

Instructions

1. Use an ethernet cable to find a signal source to a set top box. This connects your set top box to your cable. You will need a subscription to a cable television service.

2. Connect the set top box to a satellite dish. The satellite dish is mounted on the outside of the residence near the roof or on a tall pole allowing it access to the signal source. You must subscribe to a satellite service such as Dish Network.

3. Hook up a coaxial cable to the set top box. The coaxial cable is then run outside to the cable pole. You will need a cable television subscription to do this.

4. Join your set top box to a telephone line. From here you can connect to the Internet and download local stations. You must have Internet access to acquire this signal source.

5. Plug in a VHF or UHF antenna. This will allow you to access local channels for no charge.

6. Subscribe to a broadband connection. It will be hooked up to your set top box allowing you access to basic and cable television.
