What Formats Do Hd Camcorders Record In

HD camcorders capture high resolution videos, which require an ample amount of storage space to store all the information.

Since high-definition video requires a format that has the capability to store all the information needed to produce a clear, crisp image, many manufacturers of HD camcorders have switched to digital formats to handle the storage of data. Whether the storage is built into the device or requires an expansion card, several HD camcorder formats are available for users to choose their recording preferences.

Built-In Hard Drive

Similar to computers and MP3 players with storage capabilities, HD camcorders have the ability to store video files in high capacity systems built directly into the device itself. Hard drive memories have the potential to store large amounts of data and give the user longer recording times. The user can export the video files onto a computer using the provided connector and can reuse the hard drive thousands of times without having to replace it.

Memory Card

Memory cards are a form of removable flash memory and can be an expandable addition to an HD camcorder, which accepts external flash memory cards. Memory cards such as SD and CompactFlash memory cards are available at any electronic retailer and can be inserted and switched out directly from the HD camcorder for adding additional recording time. External memory cards can be uploaded using the memory card reader slots located on your computer or an external reader, or by using a cable to connect the camera with the memory card inside to the USB slot on your computer.

DVD Media

For a more tangible form of HD media organization, mini DVD or regular DVD discs are available for High-Definition camcorders that read discs. Camcorders that record to a DVD medium can be read by most DVD players and thus be easily transferred from a camcorder directly to the DVD player on your computer or media center. The camcorder records the video and audio data straight onto the disc, which can be kept for decades to centuries depending on the quality of the manufactured disc or the environment in which it is stored.
