Fold A Photo Tent

Photo tents are small, semi-translucent boxes used by photographers to diffuse light. Product and macro photographers will place their subject inside the photo tent, and use either ambient light or electronic flashes outside the tent to illuminate their subject with soft light. Because the tent is not fully transparent, the light coming into the tent is diffuse and does not create harsh highlights or shadows on the subject. A photo tent's biggest advantage is its portability. However, folding the photo tent to fit into its carrying case can sometimes be challenging.

Instructions

1. Stand the photo tent upright just as it would be positioned for taking photographs.

2. Grip opposite top corners of the photo tent and fold one into the other. You should be left with a taco shape.

3. Fold the two remaining sides into each other. You now have a flat surface with all four sides on top of one another.

4. Grip two opposite corners with one thumb on top and one thumb underneath. It does not matter which corners you grab or which thumb is on top.

5. Rotate one hand clockwise while rotating the other counter-clockwise until you make a figure-8 with your photo tent. Both thumbs should now be rotated to the top without releasing your grip.

6. Bring your hands together, folding one half of the figure eight into the other. Again, do not release your grip at this stage.

7. Flatten the three circles you made, and tuck any pieces of fabric that may have drifted away into the folded tent.

8. Put the photo tent back into its carrying case. Be careful not to release the folded tent, as it will spring back into shape.
