A PocketWizard is useful when shooting difficult compositions.
PocketWizards are wireless triggering devices for DSLR cameras. Attaching a PocketWizard to a flash will allow you to activate the flash remotely instead of having to attach it to the camera. Having two PocketWizards is preferable when using two flashes, but it is possible to have both flashes fire with one. One of the flashes will need to have a "slave unit," a small light receptor that can trigger the flash. By setting up a chain reaction between the flashes, you can get both to fire. Most flash units today have this feature built in, but be sure to check your specific model.
Instructions
1. Attach the PocketWizard to your camera's hot shoe bracket. Turn on the device and your camera.
2. Attach the receiving device to the first flash unit. Set it to the same channel as the transmitting unit and turn it on.
3. Place the flash with the slave unit in a position so that the slave unit will be able to "see" the light from the first flash unit. Turn on the unit.
4. Press the "Test" button on the PocketWizard to ensure that the first flash is firing and the second flash is firing in response to the first flash. If this is not so, adjust the positions of the flashes until they react to each other.
