Troubleshoot A Canon Camera Powershot 80

Troubleshoot a Canon Camera Powershot 80

The Canon PowerShot A80 takes high quality photographs under most conditions, but you occasionally may experience problems with the camera that prevent you from taking the photograph you want. The most common problems are the camera not powering on, not taking pictures or taking blurry photographs. Most problems do not require the assistance of a service technician; you can troubleshoot the problem yourself.

Instructions

Camera Does Not Power On

1. Press and hold the "On/Off" button located on the top of the camera for a few seconds. The camera will not turn on if you quickly press and release the "On/Off" button.

2. Check that the battery cover located on the bottom of the camera and the CF memory card cover are fully closed. The camera will not operate if either of the covers are open.

3. Open the battery cover and ensure the four AA batteries are loaded in the correct direction. The front battery is inserted with the positive side facing down. In the row of three batteries, the positive ends of the right and left batteries are facing up, and the middle battery is facing down.

4. Replace the batteries with four new AA batteries.

5. Wipe the battery contacts and the contacts in the battery chamber with a clean cloth to ensure a proper connection is made.

Camera Does Not Take Pictures." When set to ">," which is playback mode, the Canon PowerShot A80 will not take pictures.

7. Wait for the flash to recharge before trying to take the next picture. The orange indicator light on the camera will stop blinking and remain lit when the flash is fully charged. The flash needs to recharge before each picture is taken if the flash was used for the previous photograph.

8. Format the CF card if you have not previously used it with the Canon PowerShot A80. To format the CF card, open the LCD screen and press the "Menu" button to access the main menu. Press the right arrow button to highlight the "Settings" menu. Select the "CF" icon using the down arrow button and press the "Set" button. Highlight "OK" and press the "Set" button. This makes the card compatible for use with the Canon PowerShot A80. Do not format the card if you have pictures taken with another camera stored to memory that you want to save. The photographs are deleted when you format the card.

9. Insert a new CF card into the camera if you have used up all of the memory on the current card or delete images to free up space. To delete images, push the mode switch to ">." The last photograph taken will appear on the screen. Scroll through the images by pressing the navigation buttons. When an image you want to delete is on the screen, press the button with the symbol of the trashcan. Highlight "Erase" with the left or right arrow buttons when prompted to confirm the deletion and press the "Set" button.

Blurry Pictures

10. Move the camera at least 18 inches away from the subject of the photograph. The lens cannot properly focus on subjects closer than 18 inches. If you want to take closer photographs, use the Canon PowerShot A80's macro mode, which allows for closer photographs. To use macro mode, press the button with the symbol of a flower on it, which is also used as the down arrow button, and take the photograph as normal.

11. Turn on the flash when taking photographs in a dark environment. Pictures often come out blurry when not enough light is available. To turn on the flash, press the up arrow button when the LCD screen is open until the image of a lightning bolt appears on the top of the screen.

12. Place the camera on a tripod or on a flat surface before taking the shot. This reduces the amount of camera shake that leads to blurry photographs.
