The Canon Speedlite 380 EX is an autofocus zoom flash that is specifically made for Canon EOS cameras. The flash has several features, including auto flash-exposure compensation, shutter speed synchronization, FP (Focal-Plane) flash and FE (Flash Exposure) lock. The flash can be connected to the camera to ensure that all images contain the correct amount of exposure to lighting. Prior to first use, the Canon Speedlite 380 EX must be set up and installed on the camera properly.
Instructions
1. Locate the battery compartment on the right side of the flash. Slide the battery compartment cover downward, then lift it open to reveal the compartment. Insert four AA (alkaline or NiCd) batteries into the compartment. Make sure the battery positive and negative contacts are aligned according to the signs on the compartment. Close the battery compartment by sliding the cover back into place.
2. Loosen the Speedlite locking collar (located at the very bottom of the flash) by turning it counterclockwise. Align the flash with the camera's hot shoe (used to connect the two devices). Slip the mounting foot into the hot shoe until it can no longer move. Tighten the locking collar by turning it clockwise until it stops.
3. Slide the Power Switch, located at the top of the flash, from the "O" position into the "l" position to turn on the power. Press the "PILOT" button to test fire the flash. The light on the right side of the PILOT button will illuminate for two seconds to indicate a successful flash.
4. Turn on the Canon camera that is connected to the flash. Using the camera's mode dial, set the camera to the "P" icon or the "AUTO" icon to turn on the automatic flash option. This mode sets the sync speed and aperture automatically. The flash will use the best settings for use in low-light or fill-flash conditions.
5. Press the camera's shutter button to take images. The connected flash will activate and provide the correct exposure to the image.
