VCRs were the first program recording machines.
VCRs have given way to the rise of the DVD, HD DVD and even streaming video. However, there are still a few old video recording machines in use, most likely missing their instruction manuals. VCRs record at three different speeds: SP, or standard play; LP, or long play; and SLP, or super long play (alternately, EP or extended play). SP delivers the highest quality but the shortest amount of recording time at two hours. LP records for four hours, and SLP records for six hours. The longer the recording time, the lower the quality of the recording.
Instructions
1. Insert a VHS tape into the VCR.
2. Press the VCR/TV button on the remote or on the VCR. Set it to VCR.
3. Press the channel up or down buttons on the remote or VCR to select the channel the VCR is tuned to, which is usually channel 3.
4. Press the button marked "Speed" on the remote. The letters SP, LP and SLP will toggle as you press the button. If there is no button on the remote, there will be a button marked "Speed" or "Tape speed" on the front panel of the VCR. Press the button to toggle to SLP.
