Troubleshooting An Rca High Definition Tv

Blank Screen

Examine the TV input controls if you're getting a blank screen. RCA HD televisions have a number of cable outlets in the back, which let you connect a wide number of accessories such as DVD players, cable boxes and video game systems. If the TV isn't set to the right series of cables, it won't show anything on the screen. Press the "Input" button on the remote and make sure you have it set it to the right cables (if set correctly, the options onscreen will match the labels of the input cables in back). If you have, check the cables themselves to make sure they're firmly attached or the component item to see if it is the source of the signal disruption. You can press the "Input" button again to exit the screen when you're done.

Random On/Off

Check the timer settings if your TV turns on or off unexpectedly. RCA HD televisions have timers that allow you to automatically turn the TV on and off at a specific time, as well as sleep timers that let you set it to turn off after a given period of time has passed. To access those menus, press the "Menu" button on the remote, then scroll down to the "Time" option (it's the one with the symbol of a clock). That lets you turn the timers on and off and set the "Sleep" button if you wish.

Buttons Don't Work

Unlock the front panel controls if the buttons on the RCA HD television don't work. Parental controls can be used to lock them to prevent children from watching adult programming. Press the "Menu" button on the remote, then scroll down to the parental control settings (they're marked with the image of a lock). Look for "Lock Fr. Panel" on the list of options (it should be the second one from the bottom on most RCA televisions), then use the right or left arrow on the remote to turn it off.

Frozen Channels

Check the parental controls if you're having trouble accessing a certain channel. Parental controls can be used to lock out certain channels. Unlock them by going to the parental control settings as per Step 3 and looking for the "Settings" option. Then go to "Block Channel" and see if the station you want is blocked. You can unblock it by using the right or left arrows (the little lock symbol on the menu will open or close). The RCA TV may ask for your password first. Alternately, go to the "Lock" option in the parental control settings and check to see if it is shutting out specific kinds of programming rather than just a single channel. You can unlock it by pressing the up or down arrows to set the TV to a higher rating, or the "OK" button on the remote to lock and unlock any specific settings.

General Troubleshooting

In addition to more specific troubleshooting steps, it pays to go over any basic troubleshooting steps conducive to all TVs. Make sure your cable or satellite connection is firm and that your remote has fresh batteries. Watch for objects or furniture blocking the path to your remote and check the "Mute" button if the sound isn't working the way it should.
