Pictures cannot be saved on a write protected xD card.
Older models of cameras manufactured by Olympus do not use SD cards to save images, but instead the less well-known format, the xD card. xD cards, like SD cards, are flash memory cards, available in a variety of memory sizes. Like other storage devices, xD cards can be write protected, which means that they can be prevented from being erased or having any new information written on them. This is useful for preventing the accidental erasure of important information, but removing the write protect can be problematic.
Instructions
1. Remove the xD card from the camera and look at the side of it. Most xD cards have a tiny write protect switch, usually on the left hand side. Slide the switch into position and try the card in the camera again.
2. Check that the card is formatted. Do this by inserting it into the camera, accessing your playback menu and using it to format the card. Bear in mind that formatting the card may erase any pictures saved on it.
3. Reformat the card with your computer if you cannot reformat it using your camera. Using a USB card reader, plug the card into your PC and on the "Start" menu, click on "My Computer." The card will be listed as a removable drive. Right-click on it and select "Format."
4. Format the card on another camera if you have a friend or colleague who also possesses an xD-compatible camera.
5. Return the card to the shop where you bought it if none of these methods work, as it may be defective.
