Calling Costa Rica from the U.S. is easy
Costa Rica is popular with U.S. travelers and is also an increasingly sought-after retirement destination. Calling Costa Rica from a U.S. cell phone is easy, but will require some initial set-up.
Most U.S. cell phones do not have international calling automatically activated, so you will most likely need to call your service provider to have international calling feature activated. If you plan to make frequent calls to Costa Rica, your service provider may have special deals for calls to this specific country. In most cases, you'll need to subscribe to this service and pay a small monthly fee.
Instructions
1. Turn on your cell phone.
2. Dial the international exit code: 011 and the country code: 506 on the cell phone number pad.
3. Enter the eight-digit Costa Rican number.
4. Press "send" once the correct number has been entered and allow time for the call to connect. Your dialed number will look like this: 011-506-XXXX-XXXX.
5. Listen for the ring tone as the call goes through. The ring tone is similar to that on U.S. phones.
