The Canon QL 17 is a manual SLR camera used to take photos.
Canon came out with several cameras in the Canonet series during the 1960s and the 1970s that were all 35 mm rangefinder cameras. The QL 17 camera originally came out in 1965, and then a newer model came out again in 1969. This is a manual SLR camera, meaning that the shutter is not automatic. You must focus the lens by hand and use 35 mm film. Just like with other cameras, you need batteries to be able to take pictures.
Instructions
1. Open the back of the camera and insert the batteries. Pay attention to the guide to make sure the batteries go in the right way. The old types of 625 batteries were mercury based and found to be toxic. Therefore, you can take your Canon QL 17 to a professional and have it modified to take regular alkaline batteries, or find a retail store that sells the alkaline version of the old 625 batteries.
2. Place the film cartridge into place in the back of the open camera. Pull out a small strip of film and feed it into the camera. Close the back and turn the film winder until the window on the top of the back of the camera indicates the film is in proper place. The small window will begin red and switch to green or black when the film is ready to be exposed, if the camera has not been modified. Sometimes owners have modified older cameras to use different lenses, flashes, batteries and color signals.
3. Look through the lens at the subject of your photograph. Use your left hand to adjust the lens until the view is clear. Your right hand should be holding the camera with your pointer finger resting lightly on the shutter.
4. Click the shutter when your photograph is focused and you have your subject in frame. Wind the film winder until the next piece of film is ready to be exposed.
