Test A Sirius Radio Antenna

Sirius radio uses an antenna to receive satellite signals and send these signals to your radio device. If your antenna is faulty, you will not be able to get any reception and thus cannot listen to your radio channels. There are different issues that may contribute to your antenna not receiving a good signal. Set your antenna and radio up the proper way to ensure that the problem involves a faulty antenna and not something else.

Instructions

1. Mount the antenna on a clear surface and connect the power source. Car units require that you set the radio frequency on your car radio, then select the same frequency in your Sirius device menu. Indoor or outdoor Sirius units that come with a radio player only need the satellite receiver set up and the power plugged in. Some devices require speakers or headphones connected in order to hear the radio, while others come with built-in speakers.

2. Turn on the Sirius unit and make sure the device has power and there is no problem with the radio. The power should come on and you should be able to navigate between different radio stations.

3. Adjust the antenna to make sure it has clear views of the sky. Whether you are using a car or home unit, you can't have obstructions blocking the antenna. The antenna receives signals from satellites in the sky and must have a clear path to those satellites. Branches, parking garages and even thick clouds can keep the antenna from receiving a signal.

4. Determine your U.S. location and aim the antenna in the correct direction. Check with the Sirius area map on its homepage for details on what direction works best for you. For instance, those living on the West Coast need to aim to the East or Northeast while those living in the South need to aim toward the North or Northwest.

5. Ensure your speaker system is not the problem. If you have internal speakers on the radio, plug in some headphones in the line out or headphone port. Make sure you have unobstructed views, working headphones connected, a clear radio frequency setup and can switch between Sirius stations. If all these are confirmed but you still cannot receive signals, then there might be a problem with the antenna.
