Make Rabbit Ears Work With A Digital Converter

In June of 2009, the FCC switched regular broadcast television from analog transfer to digital, which requires a convertor box or a digital ready television (DTV). This was done to free up the broadcast spectrum for public safety communication, as well as meet the demands of the changing landscape of televisions. Whether you have a television that is digital-ready or not, the days of getting television from your trusty rabbit ear antenna are not over. It just takes a few more steps to get the broadcast channels.

Instructions

1. Purchase a digital converter box. If your television was made prior to 2004, chances are you will need to acquire a converter box. If your television is digital ready, it should have a 'DTV' logo either in one of the bottom corners on the front or on the tag on the back -- if so, skip to Step 4. If it does not have the logo, you will need to get a converter, available at any electronics store.

2. Use a coaxial cable to connect the convertor box to the back of your television from the hookup marked "output" on the convertor box to the spot marked "input" on your television.

3. Connect the coaxial wire of the rabbit ear antenna to the "input" connection on the converter box. Adjust the antenna's positioning, if necessary.

4. If you're using a DTV, use a coaxial cable to connect the rabbit ear antenna to the "input" connection on the TV.
