To retrieve files from the memory card for your BlackBerry, connect your BlackBerry to a computer or laptop. When you do this, and the BlackBerry Desktop Manager syncing software is not open, the computer will read the BlackBerry device as a removable drive, similar to a USB or Flash drive. With the BlackBerry listed as a drive on the computer, you are able to retrieve files from the memory card and copy the files to the computer's hard drive or another storage device.
Instructions
1. Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software on the computer or laptop, if the program is running. The software may start during Windows Startup. If so, a BlackBerry icon appears in the Windows system tray, in the lower right corner of the taskbar. Right-click and select "Close" to shut the program down.
2. Plug the USB connector cable into the BlackBerry device. Plug the other end of the cable into the computer or laptop. The computer will see the BlackBerry first as a USB device, and then as a removable drive. A prompt appears on the BlackBerry, asking if you would like to use "Mass Storage Mode."
3. Select "Yes" and press the trackpad or trackball on the BlackBerry device to allow "Mass Storage Mode" on the phone. The computer is now able to interact with the BlackBerry as if it were a removable drive.
4. Right-click the Windows "Start" button and select "Open Windows Explorer."
5. Click on the BlackBerry removable drive listing in the left navigation pane of Windows Explorer. A folder named "BlackBerry" appears in the right pane.
6. Click the "BlackBerry folder. Several subfolders appear. To retrieve pictures and image files, click the folder named "Pictures." To retrieve videos, click the folder named "Videos." Click "Music" to retrieve audio files.
