Program A Tivo Remote Control

Your TiVo digital video recorder frees you from having to wait at home for a TV sappear. Instead, you can record your favorite programs and watch them at leisure by simply pushing a few buttons on the TiVo remote control. Your remote can also control your TV set and audio system, which eliminates the clutter of devices on your coffee table. However, you need to inform the TIVO remote what types of entertainment equipment you own.

Instructions

General

1. Press the "TiVo" button on your remote to display TiVo Central. Choose "Messages and Settings," "Settings," "Remote, CableCARD, & Devices" and "Remote Control."

2. Use the arrow buttons on your remote to highlight "Part 1: TV Power" and press the "Select" button. TiVo lists TV brands. Use the arrow or "Channel" button to scroll through the list until you find your TV manufacturer. Move the highlight to its name and press the "Select" button to display the "TV Remote Codes" screen.

3. Enter the code using the instructions defined on the screen. For larger television manufacturers, you may need to try several times to find the right code.

4. Repeat this process but select "Part 2: A/V Volume" to define your audio devices and "Part 3: TV Input" to switch to different input devices like a GameBox or TiVo. If your equipment is newer than your TiVo, your remote may not contain a code for it. If you have a TiVo Glo or Series3 remote, you can teach it to learn new functions from a device remote.

Teaching

5. Press the "TiVo" and "Select" buttons at the same time, holding them down for 3 seconds. The red activity light says limit, which puts your remote in "Learning" mode.

6. Press and release the button on your TiVo remote that you want to program, such as "TV Power." The activity light flashes and then remains lit.

7. Point the front of the device remote to the front of your TiVo remote, no further than 4 inches away. Hold down the corresponding button on the device remote, such as "TV Power." The TiVo remote light flashes four times showing that it successfully received the programming. If it flashes 10 times quickly, programming was unsuccessful, so you must try again.

8. Repeat the process for all the buttons you want to program. Press the TiVo button when you are finished. If you are still unable to program your remote, contact TiVo customer support for help.
