Download Upgrades For The Canon Powershot On A Macintosh

PowerShots serve the "point, click, and shoot" photographer.

Canon uses the brand PowerShot for its compact digital cameras. PowerShot cameras range from the basic A series to the high-end Sx, S, and G series. On the company website, Canon offers a page for each of 137 different PowerShot models. Each page includes manuals to download, specifications, and more. The "Drivers & Software" category lets you download any updates to your operating system's camera driver, to Canon software, and to the camera's firmware.

Instructions

1. Open your Web browser. Assuming you live in the United States, click on the "Canon USA" link in the Reference section of this article to visit the Canon website.

2. Click on the "Support & Drivers" tab that sits to the lower left of the Canon USA home page.

3. Click on the "Support & Drivers Site Map" link at the bottom of the page you were just directed to.

4. Click on "Consumer & Home Office" on the page that just opened. A new page will open.

5. Scroll down to the "Digital Compact Cameras" category to find the PowerShot cameras. Find your model, and click on it. This will open a page devoted to that model.

6. Click on "Drivers & Software," which is last in the topic list.

7. Select "Mac OS X" in the "Choose Operating System" drop-down menu. The site will present you with three categories. "Drivers" is for the software that facilitates communication between your Mac and the camera. Mac OS X comes with a comprehensive assortment of drivers built in, so don't be surprised to find nothing available. "Software" provides updates to the Canon software on your Mac, like ImageBrowser and PhotoStitch. If there's anything in "Firmware," it is meant to be uploaded to your camera. Download these files to your Mac, run them, and follow the instructions.
