The TomTom XLS is a portable GPS system for cars which allows the user to choose between "ABCD" and "QWERTY" keyboard layouts. A "QWERTY" keyboard configuration is the standard for computers and laptops. It gets its name from the fact that the letters in the top row of the keyboard spell out "QWERTY." Some hand-held electronics use keyboards that are alphabetical, starting with "ABCD," rather than the computer-standard "QWERTY." For people who are used to typing using a "QWERTY" keyboard, this may be an annoyance.
Instructions
1. Turn on the TomTom XLS and tap the "Change Preferences" option from the main menu.
2. Navigate to "Keyboard Preferences."
3. Choose the "QWERTY" keyboard layout under "Keyboard Preferences." You can also choose the to reduce the size of the keys on the keyboard by choosing the "small keyboard" size from the properties.
4. Exit out of the preferences menu. Next time you use your TomTom on-screen keyboard, it should use the "QWERTY" layout instead of the "ABCD" layout.
